What's on · from summer 2027

Summer in the park. Lectures in the house.

From 2027 Moggerhanger's calendar grows into something worth planning a year around: classic cars on the South Lawn, music in the orchard, and a harvest festival that brings the farm to everyone. Through the year, an open invitation to lectures for the next generation of reformers. Dates are being settled now; Friends hear first.

Three festivals

Cars in June. Music in July. Harvest in September.

Three anchors for the summer, each built from what the estate already is: a lawn with a long view, an orchard made for evenings, and a farm coming back to life.

June · classic cars

Moggerhanger Classic Car Day

Classic and vintage cars across the South Lawn, a concours judged by the visitors, picnics on the grass and the tearoom open all day. Entries welcome from owners and clubs.

July · music

Music on the Lawn

An evening series through July: strings in the Drawing Room, brass on the lawn, folk and song in the orchard as the light goes. Bring a rug; supper from the farm kitchen.

Series dates to be confirmed
September · agricultural

Harvest & Agricultural Festival

Heritage breeds in the show ring, estate produce and local makers, horse-power and ploughing displays, a harvest market at the farm shop and cider pressed from our own apples.

Date to be confirmed

The 2027 season

Month by month.

A provisional programme. Dates are announced early in 2027, to Friends first, with tickets through the Visit page.

2028 and beyond

The calendar grows with the estate.

Each stage of the three-year plan opens room for more: lodges and lakeside huts mean weekends rather than days, the farm means a show rather than a fair, the brewery means a festival of its own. Ambitions, not promises; each follows the plan.

2028

A weekend of music

Music on the Lawn becomes two days in the park, with camping on the estate and the lodges full.

2028

A county agricultural show

Show rings, trade stands, young handlers, the classic cars back for a second day, and the estate brewery's first festival ale.

2029

Lakeside summer

Evenings by the reclaimed water: open-air film, dawn swims, fishing matches and supper in the huts.

Every year

The fixtures

Snowdrop Sundays in February, Iris Weekend in June, Apple Day in October and a lantern walk through the woods before Christmas.

An open invitation

The Moggerhanger Lectures, for future reformers.

The Thorntons and their circle changed the law of the land from around a dining table. The lectures put the next generation in the same rooms: evening talks in the Drawing Room, questions afterwards, supper for those who stay. The invitation is open to anyone who intends to put conviction to work, whether in the church, in enterprise, in public life or in the classroom. There is no charge to attend.

The programme is being prepared and curated now for a first season in 2027. Register your interest and you will be among the first invited.

How it works

  • One evening a month in season, from 6.30pm; the park and tearoom open beforehand.
  • A lecture of about forty minutes, then questions, then supper in the Dining Room for those who book it.
  • Some lectures are recorded for the academy; some stay in the room, by agreement with the speaker.
  • Places are free but limited. Registered guests are invited first.

Themes in preparation

The Clapham methodHow a small circle of friends changed the law, and what they did next.
Enterprise with a conscienceBankers, builders and founders on commercial skill turned to purpose.
Truth and current affairsBiblical conviction brought to bear on the questions of the day.
Abolition's unfinished businessModern slavery, debt and the reforms still waiting for their Wilberforce.
How character is builtFormation over declaration: daily practice, honest exchange, shared life.
Local roots, global reachWhat a Bedfordshire park can do for the Commonwealth and beyond.

Speakers and dates are announced as the programme is confirmed. Residential weekends for emerging leaders follow from the second year of the plan.
